An enterprising Sri Lankan Mr.Amarasiri, a veteran
motor racing Champion tirough intense perserverance and proven talent,
has overcome all obstacles to win motor vehicles manufacturing licence
in Sri Lanka and their finished products are now in Japanes market.
His two sons Duminda and Harsha in the compane of only sister Lakshika
have joined this innovative entrepreneurship, located at "New
Duminda Enterprises"40, Industrial Estate, Katuwana- Homagama.
Amarasiri himself continues with the manufacture of the mini moke
under an ambitious program LAKMINI, which means 'Mini-made in Lanka".
A fair number of the Lakmini is already on our roads. The body of
this vehicle which is a photo replica of the mini moke has been marketed
at Rs. 375,000. It is fitted with a re-conditioned mini engine, which
carries a guarantee covering 25,000 kms or one year's running which
ever comes first.
An improved version has already been completed and this model is the
first ever diesel operated Lakmini. The engine is that of a Daihatsu
Charade.. Fuel tests have indicated that the car can cover 150Kms
on a gallon (4litres) of diesel! This model is also available with
air-conditioning. The present price for the non air-conditioned model
without extra options and power fittings is Rs. 475.000. Lakshika
and others are working near miracles with the latest modifications
and attachments being done to brand new and reconditioned cars to
make them look better than even the originals. They work with fiberglass,
metal, aluminium and stainless steel and can convert the oldest looking
vehicle to one which has not yet been even designed by any of the
major automotive manufacturers, the world over.
All they need is the imagination of the client, and within a few weeks
a totally new design is on the roads. They can convert a van into
a car or vice versa! The conversion of a normal pajero into an Intercooler
look a like takes, two weeks and costs Rs. 85.000 while a Toyota jeep
(BJ40) Land Cruiser upgrade cost only Rs. 25,000. The conversion of
a Lancer Mx to an Evolution 6 look a like takes up only two weeks
of work and costs Rs. 125,000 increasing the value from a Rs. 600,000

where it is used in competitions. New Duminda Enterprises also serves
